Successful
Verdicts
Mr. Budreau's recent successes include acquittals in a complex federal conspiracy and a state homicide case and the reversal of a federal conspiracy conviction in the United States Court of Appeals for the First Circuit. He is also one of the few lawyers in the country to have won two separate
acquittals for the same defendant charged
with two separate and distinct homicides. See
Selected
Verdicts
In a landmark decision,, Mr. Budreau recently convinced a federal judge to quash a grand jury subpoena seeking the password from a client's computer by forcing him to type it in rather than verbally provide it. The Court agreed with the defense and found that even typing it would be testimonial as the password is not a physical key but a mental image which is, therefore, deserved of Fifth Amendment protections.
Appeals
Appellate cases tend to be much more academic oriented than trials. Mr. Budreau's academic background includes teaching at Harvard
University School of Law and Northeastern
University School of Law and a judicial clerkship. This experience together with his trial background has led to success as an post-conviction lawyer including recent reversals in the United States Court of Appeals for the First and Eleventh Circuits as well as the granting of new trials in various jurisdictions.
