Mr. Budreau was selected to teach an employment law course by Harvard University School of Law for the 2003-2004 academic year. In October 2004, he returned to his litigation practice full-time and immediately began preparing to try a first degree murder case In Boston. On December 21, 2004 Mr. Budreau's client was acquitted on all counts after six weeks of trial and seven days of deliberation by a Suffolk County jury.

Mr. Budreau has practiced in the complex criminal and civil litigation area since 1990. His trial practice has ranged from a three month complex criminal conspiracy trial in federal court to first degree murder cases in state court. He has defended corporate executives, federal employees including air traffick controllers, health care providers, police officers, lawyers and doctors accused of various criminal offenses and regulatory violations. Mr. Budreau has argued appeals in both federal and states courts. See Selected Verdicts. Mr. Budreau is one of the few criminal defense attorneys around the country who has successfully obtained two acquittals for the same defendant for two separate murders tried before different juries.
